The famous Kohler Brothers “King Kong” A/Gas Supercharged ’48 Anglia is now restored and owned by Carlos and Mary Cedeno. The restoration of the car is nearly flawless, bringing back memories of the days when the blown Gassers were nationally revered. The spirit of “Mr. Four-Speed”, Ronnie Sox lives on in the memories of the legions of fans he thrilled with his unequalled driving skills and many major race wins. Ronnie’s widow, Diane Sox, stands proudly by the Sox & Martin Dodge Omni Pro Stocker from the early 1980’s. Pro/Modified pioneer and Native American Johnny Rocca brought his brand new “Tin Indian”, fiberglass ’33 Willys, blown alcohol Pro Mod, which was debuted to thousands of enthusiastic fans at Henderson. Johnny Rocca’s natiionally famous ’48 Mercury “Iron Horse” was also on display at the 2007 East Coast Drag Times Hall of Fame weekend in Henderson, NC. The “Merc” may look bulky, but has run deep in the six-second bracket at 210+ mph! The Pacers Auto, “Tasmanian Devil” AA/Altered is an exact replica of the car that Charlie Hagenmayer and his Jamaica, NY pals successfully raced in the 60’s. Known as “Charlie Dodge” because of his love of Hemi Dodge engines, the “Devil” was one of the East Coast’s fastest and quickest altered roadsters. This “tribute car” was recreated and trailered all the way from Arizona, making its crowd pleasing debut at the Hall of Fame weekend. Ft. Lauderdale, Florida’s Bob Lee ran his first drag race in 1955, and continues to race this C/Altered, Model A Ford coupe at nostalgia events across the Southeast. Lee and his sons also captured 2007 Championships in each of their respective classes during the 2007 SCCA road racing series. Bob’s “A-Bone” coupe uses an injected small-block Chevy and four-speed trans for wheels-up action. The Hartsoe Brothers ’48 Anglia was a tough competitor in 60’s Gasser racing on the East Coast. The A/Gas flyer uses a big-block Chevy for power and continues to compete in nostalgia events. One of the original “Ohio Gasser” legends, Dave and Susie Koffel ran this ’48 Packard as an E/Gasser in the 1960’s, towing the nearly 4,000 lb. beast on the ground, using a tow car! Koffel spent many years as a member of Chrysler Corporation’s famous racing engineering group, and now owns Koffel’s Place, where aftermarket aluminum “B-1” racing heads are produced for “B” Series Mopars. Cotton Owens, from Spartanburg, SC, was a legend in NASCAR racing of the 50’s, 60’s and 70’s, first as a driver and then a car owner and builder. During NASCAR’s “Hemi-ban” of the mid-1960’s, Owens built and drag raced this ungainly, 426 Hemi powered, Dodge Dart wagon, “The Cotton Picker”. Cotton’s guest for the weekend was another NASCAR racing icon, David “The Silver Fox” Pearson, winner of the 1976 Daytona 500. In 1963 Chevrolet released its ’63 Impala with a special factory option package called “RPO Z-11”. That provided a 427 cubic inch, “409 style”, 430 HP, V-8, and aluminum hood, fenders and front bumper, for reduced racing weight. “Good ‘Ole Mr. Wilson” ’63 hails from North Carolina, and was tuned by Ronnie Sox, out of Sox’s Sinclair gas station in Burlington, NC! Few enjoy drag racing “then or now” as much as the S&S Racing Team. “Charter Member” Fred Bear’s supercharged, Mallicoat Brothers Hemi powered ’40 Willys is a B/Gas Supercharged mainstay at nostalgia events. Fred’s Gasser experience dates back to the middle 1950’s. Another S&S Racing Team member, Gene Altizer, made this ’48 Anglia famous in A and B/Gas racing during the 60’s. Altizer also campaigned injected, nitro fueled Funny Cars.
